Earlier this week, Aston Villa’s Leon Bailey joined AS Roma on an initial loan deal.
The winger had arrived at the airport in Rome in quite a good mood, clearly making the most of the reaction from Giallorossi supporters.
Hours later, Il Messaggero reported that the 28-year-old picked up an injury in his first training session with Roma.
Today’s Corriere dello Sport takes a deeper look at the Jamaican’s fitness problem and notes that Bailey left the Italian club’s training ground last night in ‘low mood’.
The injury has been described as ‘unlucky’ by the newspaper, who believe that the Aston Villa loanee will be out for about three weeks. As a result, he will only be in action for Roma after next month’s international break.
Despite this, Roma are not too concerned. They feel the injury isn’t too serious and will not affect his performances in the longer term.
Sporting director Ricky Massara has been following the winger since his time at Bayer Leverkusen and he only moved for him when his situation felt tempting at Aston Villa.
Roma are patient and are in no rush to bring Bailey back to action. Corriere dello Sport note that they made a similar mistake with Georginio Wijnaldum in the past and they do not want to repeat it with the Jamaica international.
Aston Villa will be keeping a close eye on developments to make sure no risks are taken.
