Manchester United are weighing up a summer move for Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoumé as they explore alternatives to Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, according to reports from Spain.
Midfield still on Amorim’s wishlist
The Red Devils have been busy strengthening their attack with the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, but Ruben Amorim still wants more depth in midfield. Defensive cover has been a clear priority, with Baleba emerging as the club’s top target earlier in the window.
However, Brighton’s stance has made negotiations difficult. The Seagulls are reluctant to let the 20-year-old leave and are demanding a hefty fee, forcing United to consider other options. That has opened the door for Agoumé, who could be available at a more reasonable price.
Agoumé fits the profile
The 23-year-old France U21 international, born in Cameroon, is being viewed as a “realistic target” due to his blend of physicality, tactical discipline, and top-flight experience. Sevilla are said to value him at around £25m, which is significantly less than Baleba’s asking price.
Agoumé has become a key figure for Sevilla after a slow start to life in Andalusia. He played a major role in their survival fight last season, starting 24 of his 35 league appearances, and kicked off the current campaign with a goal in a narrow 3-2 loss to Athletic Club.
Could United make a move?
With his contract running until 2028, Sevilla are under no pressure to sell, but United see him as an affordable solution to reinforce their midfield. An official bid could be on the cards before the transfer deadline, though the club’s immediate focus remains on raising funds through player sales.
Agoumé might not have been the headline name fans were expecting, but his profile ticks many of the boxes Amorim wants in his squad. If United act quickly, the Sevilla star could yet find himself at Old Trafford before the window shuts.
