West Ham United have reportedly approached Chelsea over a deal for midfielder Andrey Santos, but the Blues have no intention of letting the youngster go, according to The Guardian.
Santos’ Journey at Chelsea
The 21-year-old joined Chelsea from Vasco da Gama in 2023 but initially struggled to break into the first team. After a brief and frustrating loan at Nottingham Forest, which was cut short midway through the season, Santos was sent to Strasbourg, Chelsea’s sister club in France.
It was in Ligue 1 where the Brazilian truly found his rhythm. Last season, he scored 11 goals and registered four assists in 34 appearances, showcasing his ability to influence games from midfield. His strong performances earned him a spot in Chelsea’s first-team squad this summer. He even featured at the Club World Cup and made a Premier League cameo in the opening-day win over Crystal Palace.
West Ham’s Midfield Plans
Following a sluggish start to their campaign, West Ham are keen to bring in fresh legs in midfield. Reports suggest they are open to parting ways with Edson Álvarez to make room for a new signing. Alongside Barcelona’s Mateus Fernandes and Marc Casado, Santos has emerged as a target for David Moyes’ side.
However, Chelsea swiftly rejected West Ham’s approach, making it clear they see Santos as part of their long-term plans. With five years left on his contract and a market value of around £30 million, the Blues are in no rush to cash in.
A Player with Huge Potential
Comfortable both as a holding midfielder and in a box-to-box role, Santos combines defensive discipline with vision and passing range. At just 21, he is seen as one of Chelsea’s brightest young prospects, and it’s easy to see why West Ham were tempted.
For now, the Hammers will have to look elsewhere for reinforcements, while Chelsea continue to nurture a midfielder who could play a major role in their future.
