Sources: Man Utd star decides to leave after U-turn, he's played his final game for the club

Manchester United star Rasmus Hojlund has accepted that he needs to seal his Old Trafford departure before the transfer window slams shut after it has become clear that he is not on course to be handed any more game time by head coach Ruben Amorim, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

The Denmark international has fallen down the pecking order thanks to the Red Devils completing the £73.7million acquisition of Benjamin Sesko from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig earlier this month, leading to him carefully assessing his options as the September 1 deadline edges closer.

Academy graduate Marcus Rashford has been among the big-names to leave Manchester United since the end of last term, with Barcelona landing him on an initial loan which includes a £26million option to become permanent, and Hojlund is in line to embark on a fresh challenge in the coming days.

Hojlund Poised to Make Red Devils Departure

Hojlund has already made his final appearance for Manchester United as he is expected to head through the exit door before the transfer window closes, according to GMS sources, and he is confident that he will be able to rediscover his best form if he makes the move back to Serie A.

The Red Devils lured the striker away from the Italian top flight in August 2023, with him completing a switch worth £72million from Atalanta, and he is certain that he would quickly showcase his talent by returning to familiar surroundings as he previously demonstrated that he can cause problems for defenders.

GMS sources have been informed that AC Milan have put forward their project in an attempt to land Hojlund, who found the back of the net 10 times for Manchester United during the 2024/25 campaign, but domestic counterparts Napoli are adamant that they have jumped ahead in the queue by convincing him of their vision.

Although the 22-year-old's representatives have been in discussions with the reigning Serie A champions as he is keen to head to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, he is not interested in a straight loan deal and is seeking assurances that he would have a long-term future in Naples.

Hojlund has earmarked Italy as his preferred destination after being encouraged by agents and intermediaries to listen to offers, GMS sources have learned, while he has come to terms with the fact that he needs to walk away from Manchester United if he wants regular opportunities.

Hojlund Was Deliberately Left Out by Amorim

GMS sources have been told that Amorim's decision to leave Hojlund out of the matchday squad for Manchester United's Premier League opener against Arsenal last weekend was a deliberate indicator that he will not be able to work his way back into the Portuguese tactician's plans.

Although the centre forward still has three years remaining on his £85,000-per-week contract, the Red Devils' preference is to increase their budget by sanctioning his permanent departure as the funds would give them further scope to bring in more reinforcements before the deadline.

Hojlund initially thought he would be given the chance to fight for his place, GMS sources understand, but Amorim's insistence that he will not feature again for Manchester United has resulted in him having to make a U-turn on his stance and prepare to take his career in another direction.

GMS sources recently revealed that the Red Devils fear they may be forced to accept a loan offer for Jadon Sancho after he snubbed the opportunity to join Roma earlier this week, highlighting that they have been facing difficulties when attempting to offload members of the squad who have been deemed surplus to requirements.
