Manchester United’s list of talented young players seems to be never ending, but right at the top may be Chido Obi.
Within Carrington right now, major changes are occurring with Darren Fletcher beginning his U18 head coach role this summer, and also the departure of Nick Cox.
Cox is set to become Everton’s technical director which creates a gap and United needing a new academy director.
To fill this gap, United are set to appoint Stephen Torpey as Cox’s replacement, which on paper is an excellent fit to continue the building of the best academy in England.
JJ Gabriel and Kai Rooney are both being fast-tracked by United and are viewed as being the future of the club, but further along the line is Chido Obi.
Obi has already scored for United’s first team during the post-season tour, however, with no European football, he could struggle for minutes this season which may come at a bad time for the 17-year-old.

Chido Obi being closely watched by Denmark U21 boss
With no European competitions this season, Amorim won’t need the big squad he had last season. This was shown last week with Rasmus Hojlund not even on the bench.
With Benjamin Sesko joining United, the striker position is locked up, and Joshua Zirkzee is expected to be second choice which has led to Obi returning to the U21s so far this season, where he will have to re-earn his first team place.

Amorim will have eyes on Obi, while so does his new Denmark U21 head coach Lars Knudsen, who has spoken to Danish outlet Bold about the striker.
“Chido is a very big talent, which we are of course keeping a close eye on.”
Knudsen won’t be impressed thus far this season with Obi’s U21 appearances, as the team have struggled to create much for him, however, he has a golden opportunity coming up.
Chido Obi should get chance during Manchester United vs Notts County
Obi hasn’t been in Amorim’s squad for the past few weeks, but next week, United open their Carabao Cup campaign in the second round against League Two Grimsby and this could be the chance for Obi to shine.
United drew Grimsby and although it comes early in the season, it will be a chance for Amorim to use the bulk of his squad and rotate heavily.
Obi could lead the line with Mason Mount and Zirkzee behind him in the number 10 positions.
If Amorim doesn’t plan to use Obi in the cup, it could be that fans begin to wonder if he will be better served heading on loan instead, considering he proved last season that youth football wasn’t really a test for him.
Grimsby could therefore be Obi’s golden chance to get that U21 Danish call up and also show Amorim that he needs to use him more, potentially as the second string to Sesko.
