'Need to be loud' - Hurzeler wants this from his Albion players

Even on what might be noisy surroundings at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Seagulls head coach has identified Yasin Ayari as a player who can take more responsibility on the pitch after his “benchmark” display against Fulham.

But he is not the only one who comes into that category.

Ayari appears to be player who Hurzeler trusts to do a job.

He can move him forwards and back in his midfield set-up.

When Facundo Buonanotte was injured against Las Palmas in pre-season and the first-half XI has all gone off with their jobs done, Ayari was the man he called to come back from the changing room and do some overtime.

Players like that are precious to managers and head coaches.

Asked specifically about his Sweden midfielder, Hurzeler said: “I'm very happy with how Yasin has developed.

“I think we all saw it against Fulham, how mature he was playing.

“He was there in every moment. He was good in possession, good out of possession.

“It was a benchmark performance from him.

“And now it's about him being consistent, to show these kind of performance every week because that's what a top, top player does.

“The second thing is that I want him to take more responsibility on the pitch, that he grows also as a communicator.

“It's important for me that the players who are playing in the midfield that they're loud, that they're communicative because they can control a lot of players.

“They can control the striker, the wingers, they connect with the centre-back.

“They need to be a loud speaker. They need to be a communicator in these areas.

“And I think it's very important that we have, although we are young in this kind of areas with Carlos (Baleba), with Yasin, with Jack (Hinshelwood), with Diego (Gomez) and also Matt O’Riley, that we have players who can communicate with each other.

“I think that's the main thing where we all have to develop.”

That sort of communication might have helped Albion in the passage of play ahead of the corner which saw Fulham equalise at the Amex.

It felt like those moments around a throw-in continue to annoy Hurzeler as he spoke at his press conference leading into the Everton game.

Five days on from the event, he said: “We never want to be satisfied with 1-0, but the key thing is to keep the clean sheet.

“The key thing is to defend until the end, to keep the focus high, to not be lazy, to do your job, to be awake when there's a restart, a throw in or a corner.

“These are all things you can influence and they are my main focus.”

They will need to be alert on Merseyside as the Toffees play their first Premier League game at their much-awaited new stadium.

Hurzeler said: “Game management, how to manage the first minutes, how to manage the last minutes is always a big part, but I think they will be intense.

“They will be aggressive. They want to show their home fans something in their first appearance in the new stadium.

“We have to be prepared for that. For sure you can't prepare for everything, but we need to be calm, we need to be focused on ourselves.

“Don't get too emotionally involved into these things.”
