Report: Chiefs Looking to Make Trade to Support Patrick Mahomes

The Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes are looking to get back to winning championships during the 2025 NFL season.

After winning the Super Bowl in two straight years, they came up short in their attempt for a three-peat last season. Last year, they were blown out by the Philadelphia Eagles in the big game.

Mahomes and company have had to sit with that loss all offseason long. They're ready to get back on the field and get that sour taste out of their mouths.

Keeping that in mind, there are still areas the Chiefs could look to improve. One of those areas comes at the running back position.

Right now, Kansas City has Isiah Pacheco, Kareem Hunt, and Elijah Mitchell in the backfield. That could be a good group, but the Chiefs should be open to the idea of bringing in another weapon in the backfield.

According to a report from NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Kansas City is indeed one of the teams sniffing around the running back trade market. She also named the Cleveland Browns and New Orleans Saints as well.

"Sources: Teams making calls in search of running back additions include the Saints, Browns and Chiefs," Russini wrote.

It's unknown which running backs could be available on the trade market. With the regular season coming up quickly and roster cutdowns right around the corner, the Chiefs should have some options come available in the near future.

Looking at the Kansas City offense, there are a lot of reasons to be excited.

Pacheco is more than capable of being an NFL starting running back. Mahomes is still one of the best quarterbacks in the league. As for his weapons in the passing game, Mahomes will have Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Hollywood Brown, Travis Kelce, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Jalen Royals to work with.

Assuming players play up to their abilities, the Chiefs should have a dangerous offense. Adding another playmaker in the backfield could make them even better.

Expect to continue hearing trade rumblings in the coming days. Don't be surprised if Kansas City brings in another running back.
