‘I’ve Moved On’: Colin Kaepernick Receives More Bad News

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick received more bad news regarding a project that had been in the works.

ESPN and Spike Lee canned a multi-episode series about the former NFL quarterback and activist. The two parties claimed they did so because of creative differences, though there are questions as to how much fear about President Donald Trump’s administration played a role amid ESPN’s merger with the NFL Network.

The Colin Kaepernick project ended a year ago

Per Jason Gerrasio of Business Insider, Lee said that the project ended a year ago.

“That thing fell apart a year ago,” Lee said “No one had ever asked me about it. I was on a red carpet and a guy asked me the question, I wasn’t going to lie.”

Lee called the situation unfortunate, but said he has no ambitions to find another network or streaming service to complete the project with, killing the series for Kaepernick.

“No, it’s unfortunate, but I mean, I’ve moved on,” Lee said. “That was a year ago.”

In a statement to BI, ESPN confirmed Lee’s side of the story while thanking him for the hard work that went into the project.

“Despite not reaching finality, we appreciate all the hard work and collaboration that went into this film,” ESPN wrote.

The hard work will go unnoticed, and it’s an unfortunate happenstance for Kaepernick and league fans who want to know more about his life story, and more about what happened in the final year of his career before he reached a settlement with the league.
