Nottingham Forest showed serious interest in RCD Mallorca’s Pablo Maffeo this summer and even made an approach to sign him.
Last month, the Premier League side resumed negotiations with the La Liga side after an initial approach in June. On July 21st, Marca stated Nottingham Forest made an improved offer of €5m plus €1.5m bonuses and the right-back was keen on a move.
Three days later, the same outlet reported Nottingham Forest ended negotiations as they refused to meet €8m price set by the La Liga side.
Later that month, Mallorca manager Jagoba Arrasate confirmed that the defender wants to leave but negotiations with Nuno Espírito Santo’s side have broken down.
Cope looks at the 28-year-old’s situation at Mallorca, after his move to Nottingham Forest collapsed.
In the final home game of last season, the Mallorca fans urged Maffeo to leave. He’s been keen on a move, and the Spanish club want to part ways with him in this window. That hasn’t happened yet, and the defender isn’t happy at the club.
According to Cope, Maffeo’s ‘displeasure at not being able to leave is evident in training’.
On Wednesday, Arrasate asked him to leave training early because of his ‘attitude and a minor discomfort’. Cope do point out there wasn’t an argument or fight between the pair, but the manager wasn’t happy with what Maffeo was doing in training.
The decision to not accept Nottingham Forest’s bid for Maffeo has clearly not gone down well for Mallorca.
