On August 5th, Tyler Morton left Liverpool and completed a permanent move to Lyon.
At the weekend, the midfielder made his debut for the French club and played the full 90 minutes in their 1-0 win over RC Lens.

They point out his performance against Lens was promising.
The 22-year-old has been speaking to the French media today and Foot Mercato have relayed his comments. He explained Lyon manager Paulo Fonseca’s playing style and the chat he had with the 52-year-old Portuguese convinced him to leave the Reds.
_“Before arriving, I watched extensive videos and saw that it matched my style. Paulo Fonseca was fantastic; we spoke once or twice, and it made my decision clearer. I spoke to my agent about it. This game with two midfielders who drop back and forth is similar to Liverpool,”_ he said.
The player reveals those around him knew he was going to join Lyon when they became aware of the interest. He mentioned this when sharing his take on the Ligue 1.
_“It’s a great league, attractive, with high-quality players, and I know players here like Gomez Rodríguez and Jonathan Rowe, who are brilliant. It’s a springboard to play on such a stage,”_ Morton explained.
_“The passion in this league attracted me, and I’m passionate about football. It was quite easy for me to come here. As soon as the club showed interest in me, everyone close to me knew I was going to sign.”_
Morton came through the ranks of Liverpool’s academy and was promoted to their senior team in 2021. He made 14 appearances and was on loan at Blackburn Rovers and Hull City between 2022 and 2024.
Morton is now having an adventure in France and has quickly adapted at his new club.
_“My integration went well; everyone is very friendly here. I knew a lot about Lyon, a little less about the city. The club is really impressive; I followed them a lot, especially last year. I was very excited to come here,”_ he added.
