Report: Newcastle United push ahead for £60m striker with ‘personal terms’ in place

After suffering a Yoane Wissa setback on Wednesday, Newcastle United are stepping up their interest in another striker target.

Newcastle’s £40million Wissa bid was rejected by Brentford, with the 28-year-old still not allowed to move to St James’ Park despite his desperation.

Speaking of desperation, that is the word that sums up how much Newcastle United need to buy a striker.

Away from Wissa, Newcastle want Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolverhampton Wanderers too.

It has been reported that Wolves want huge money for Strand Larsen, and now it has emerged exactly how much the Norway international could cost.

Jorgen Strand Larsen will cost Newcastle United at least £60m

An update has emerged on Newcastle’s interest in Strand Larsen, and it would appear that a deal will not be cheap.

That is according to the Express and Star, who report that Wolves will only consider selling Strand Larsen if they receive an offer worth more than £60million.

They add that Newcastle and Wolves are currently not in contact over a deal, with negotiations taking place between intermediaries.

In the event that Newcastle and Wolves can agree a fee, it would appear that a deal would suddenly not be too far away. That is because the Express and Star add that Strand Larsen has already agreed ‘personal terms’ with the Magpies in the event of an agreement.

However, it is added that the 25-year-old is not pushing to leave Molineux for St James’ Park.

Where Jorgen Strand Larsen would rank among Newcastle’s most expensive signings

More than £60million is a lot of money, and it remains to be seen if Newcastle United are willing to go that high.

They have already tried to spend that much on a striker this summer, launching club-record bids for Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko. However, they joined Liverpool and Manchester United respectively.

If they do spend north of £60million on Strand Larsen, it will make him one of Newcastle’s most expensive signings ever.

The record currently belongs to Alexander Isak, who cost £63million in 2022. After that, the Magpies’ next most lucrative deals were the £55million purchases of Sandro Tonali and Anthony Elanga.

Alexander Isak £63million

Sandro Tonali £55million

Anthony Elanga £55million

Anthony Gordon £45million

£60million+ is a lot to spend on a striker who scored 14 goals in his only season in English football. The year before last, Strand Larsen netted 13 goals for Celta Vigo.

With those numbers, there is no way he would be able to replace Isak. However, he could fill Callum Wilson’s shoes and be an alternative to Wissa.
