Liverpool are to be without a summer signing when they take on Arsenal next weekend.
Arsenal have been handed a boost ahead of their trip to take on Premier League champions Liverpool next weekend with the hosts dealt a serious injury blow this week.
The Gunners first have the visit of Leeds United to deal with on Saturday evening, the Whites buoyed by their 1-0 win over Everton at Elland Road on Monday night. Mikel Arteta is looking to make it two wins from two having pinched three points against Manchester United last weekend.
The Reds look strong contenders to lift the Premier League trophy again this term after a summer of serious investment. A huge £117 million was spent on Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz with £79 million on Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike and £40 million on AFC Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez.
Liverpool dealt injury blow ahead of Arsenal
Liverpool also strengthened with the addition of Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen for £30 million and the 24-year-old has made an immediate impact. The full-back scored in the FA Community Shield against Crystal Palace and played 60 minutes against AFC Bournemouth on the opening weekend.
Following the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Frimpong looked set to be a key member of the starting XI but Liverpool are now set to be without him against Newcastle United on Monday night and against Arsenal the following weekend.
In an update shared on social media platform X, Fabrizio Romano wrote: “Jeremie Frimpong will be out until the end of the international break, confirms Arne Slot. He won’t be available due to a hamstring injury.”
That comes after Slot said: “The medical team was completely right about Jeremie to take him off because he's out until the end of the international break and that happened during the game. I think I got criticised a bit for taking him off, didn't I? I've already said it had nothing to do with how he played but we felt he had an issue with his hamstring and by we, I mean the medical staff.
"They were completely right. It was a good call to take him off otherwise he maybe would have been out for longer. We expect to have him back after the international break.”
Gabriel Martinelli could profit for Liverpool setback
That’s a boost for Arsenal and in particular whoever Mikel Arteta chooses to field in the left wing role. That was Gabriel Martinelli against the Red Devils but could be former Chelsea star Noni Madueke or Leandro Trossard.
The Gunners are also set to sign Crystal Palace attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze. The England international is expected to feature for the Eagles in Europa Conference League action tonight, making an outing against Leeds United somewhat ambitious, but could be in line for a debut against Liverpool.
Speaking about what Frimpong brings to the Liverpool side, teammate Cody Gakpo said: “He’s a great guy. I think everyone will like him. He’s a very professional guy but also a very fun guy for the dressing room, so there will be no problem. He’s unbelievably fast, like, he’s crazy fast.”
In other news, Arsenal have made Tottenham their little brother with £60m transfer hijack.
