Jaguars' DC just heaped massive praise on intriguing Khalen Saunders trade

It's almost time for the regular season, and the Jacksonville Jaguars have the tough task of putting together the best possible 53-man roster.

The Jags will have to cut with talented players they would otherwise like to keep. The good news is that a lucky 16 will get their chance to stick around on the practice squad.

With that in mind, here's a prediction of the Jaguars' practice squad for the 2025 season.

Jaguars quarterback (1): Seth Henigan

With fifth-year veteran Trevor Lawrence the clear starter—and Nick Mullins a solid backup—they'll likely elect to keep a third option on the practice squad. Despite a rough preseason game against the New Orleans Saints, Seth Henigan still has more upside than John Wolford overall. Plan to see his name on the practice squad.

Jaguars running back (1): Ja'Quinden Jackson

With how high the coaches have been on rookies Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen Jr., I expect they'll make the 53-man roster alongside Travis Etienne and Tank Bigsy. Ja'Quinden Jackson is also in his rookie season and will likely make the practice squad as the Jaguars' sole running back.

Jaguars wide receviers (3) Austin Trammell, Dorian Singer, & Eli Pancol

The Jaguars have an interesting problem with too many potential starting receivers. Brian Thomas Jr., Travis Hunter, Dyami Brown, and Parker Washington are the clear top four, with Trenton Irwin sliding into the number five slot. A potential for WR6 seems to be up in the air with the recent release of Joshua Cephus.

Setting aside any WR6 debates, Austin Trammell, Dorian Singer, and Eli Pancol have performed great in the preseason and throughout camp. While the Jaguars might indeed choose one of them as WR6, it seems more likely they'll keep them close by on the practice squad to hedge against injuries, especially with Hunter looking to play both sides of the ball.

Jaguars tight ends (1): Quintin Morris

Third-year veteran Brenton Strange has become the clear favorite, with Hunter Long and Johnny Mundt earning their places as second and third options, as well as solid blockers. While Quintin Morris had a stellar game against the Pittsburgh Steelers—four targets, four catches, and 39 yards—I don't know that he's done enough to bump Long or Mundt. Either way, he's someone the Jaguars will want nearby.

Jaguars offensive linemen (2): Sal Wormley & Ricky Lee

You can never have too many offensive linemen. Good teams have their seasons flounder due to injuries, and the Jaguars will likely keep Wormley and Lee on hand in case that happens.

Jaguars defensive linemen (3): Jordan Jefferson, James Carpenter, & Danny Striggow

The same can be said for the defensive front. While Jordan Jefferson still has a real chance to make the starting 53, the recent acquisition of Khalen Saunders from the Saints might just bump him off.

Jaguars linebackers (2): Chad Muma & Jalen McLeod

Another position group that looks to be deep for the Jaguars. Like Jefferson, fourth-year veteran Chad Muma still might have a chance to earn a spot, but he's yet to prove he's a reliable starter. With rookie Jack Kiser's solid preseason performance, I expect Muma to slip onto the practice squad.

Jaguars cornerbacks (2): De'Antre Prince & Jabbar Muhammad

This position group was made a little weirder when the Jaguars drafted Hunter, who they expect to play both sides of the ball. While they'll likely retain at least five corners (not including Hunter), I expect the Jaguars to make the safe call and keep another two on the practice squad to protect against injuries.

Jaguars S Daniel Thomas

This one was tough. Does Darnell Savage make the 53? And if not, is he picked up by another team? In either case, I don't expect him to be on the Jaguars practice squad this year—that slot likely belongs to Daniel Thomas.
