With Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley out and Joe Gomez not fully fit, Arne Slot could turn to Dominik Szoboszlai as an emergency right-back at Newcastle.
Slot is expected to be without both of his established right-back options for the trip to Newcastle on Monday night, following a hamstring injury to Frimpong.
While Bradley was able to train with the squad again for “a few minutes” on Thursday, the likelihood is that the Northern Irishman will not be in contention.
Assessing his options during his pre-match press conference, Slot also indicated that Gomez – who was not involved in some sessions in the buildup to the trip to St James’ Park – would not be fit to start either.
That leaves Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo as possibilities for the starting role at right-back.
“We only have at the moment two injuries, unfortunately it’s two for the same position,” Slot told reporters on Thursday.
“But the good thing is that some others can play in that position as well: Wata played in that position for a few minutes, Dominik Szoboszlai already played in that position.
“So there are other options we can explore. Joe Gomez is definitely one of them, but for him to play 20 minutes [against Bournemouth] was already quite a lot.
“I wouldn’t say he had a setback, but he wasn’t able to train three days in a row completely with the team.
“Which is completely normal if you’re out for so long and all of a sudden the manager needs you for 20 minutes.
“But he’s training with the team, so let’s see where he is on Monday, if he can be involved in the team or if he can even start.”

While Slot noted Frimpong’s positive injury history, the head coach also claimed Bradley was only out “once or twice” last season despite missing 17 games through injury and completing the full 90 minutes only once in the league.
“You just cannot prepare for two injuries in one position,” he continued.
“It would be stupid for us to have three right-backs – although we have three left-backs at the moment!
“So we’re unlucky that the right full-backs are injured.”
Liverpool’s only other known issue comes with Stefan Bajcetic still working his way back following hamstring surgery, though the young midfielder is expected to leave on loan if able to prove his fitness before the transfer deadline.
Ryan Gravenberch is back following suspension, which could facilitate Szoboszlai’s possible switch to right-back.
