Washington Commanders RB Brian Robinson is on the trading block.

Over this past weekend, there were reports that the Washington Commanders were looking to trade running back Brian Robinson. It may have raised an eyebrow or two, but much more was made of it when Robinson didn’t suit up and/or play on Monday night against the Cincinnati Bengals.

While it’s not abundantly clear why they’d like to trade him, it sounds like if they don’t he’s going to be released outright. While that’s conjecture, head coach Dan Quinn was asked about Robinson following the game and he sounded like he had just told Robinson he was going to get cut.

“Yeah, I’ll keep that between us,” Quinn said when asked what was said. “News like that, it’s not always that easy, but he’s somebody that we respect a lot. That’s for sure.”

So, where does Robinson go? According to Rickey (from @RickeyScoops on X, he regularly gets a hold of some stories), the Miami Dolphins are in the lead for his services.

“The #Dolphins are the frontrunners to trade for #Commanders Brian Robinson #PhinsUp #RaiseHail,” Rickey posted on X.

What does the Brian Robinson interest say about the Dolphins’ running backs?

Whether or not the Dolphins actually trade for Robinson is irrelevant at this point. The fact that this is being discussed says a lot about the current running back situation in Miami. De’Von Achane is nursing a soft-tissue injury and will miss a bit of time. Initially, it was thought that it could be days or weeks and some have speculated that he could miss the first three weeks of the season. Who knows?

Achane’s backup Jaylen Wright has been nothing short of terrible in the presason. Third-string rookie Ollie Gordon II has been moving up and playing well, but if Achane is going to miss significant time, the Dolphins might not be comfortable handing they keys over to a sixth-round rookie.

Heck, considering the Dolphins’ issues with short yardage (Thanks, Tyreek), maybe they’d want to add Robinson and his eight touchdowns anyway. It makes sense, he wouldn’t cost much (fourth year on a 3rd-round rookie contract) and the Commanders absolutely are not demanding a king’s ransom for him. If they are ultimately releasing him anyway, a conditional sixth probably gets it done. Maybe less.

It sounds like the Commanders are finished with Brian Robinson

Completely unrelated, I spent quite a bit of time in Alexandria, VA the last three or so years. Between news, sports radio and chatting with the locals, I never heard anything negative about Robinson. Outside of, you know, getting shot six blocks from the DoJ in Washington, D.C. during a car jacking (side note: considering that the feds have taken over D.C. in an attempt to reduce crime, is it shocking that Robinson wasn’t added to the President’s Physical Fitness Council?).

So, it’s a bit unclear why they are moving on. It’s not like they have Clinton Portis in his prime on the roster. Heck, they don’t even have 1991 Ricky Ervins on the team.

Still, something apparently went down because Quinn sounds like the Commanders are dunzo with him.

“There’s just a lot of moving parts this time of year. Those things take place,” Quinn said. “And so I just wanted to make sure that’s my responsibility to let the team know whenever I can so they’re not hearing any information from anywhere else. So that was all more of the standard operating procedure for me. But if I have a chance when things come up, especially during this time of year, where I can bring them together and discuss things, I want them to hear those things from me first.”

We’ll have to wait to find out if the Dolphins’ interest is legitimate. Robinson has been a nice running back for a few years and the Dolphins’ cup doesn’t overfloweth with talent there.
