What will the quarterback rotation look like?
While Flacco expected to play, the other Browns quarterbacks are still recovering from preseason injuries. Stefanski ruled out QB Kenny Pickett playing due to a lingering hamstring injury suffered on July 26. Quarterbacks Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders are recovering from a hamstring and oblique injury, respectively. While Gabriel has been full go in practice throughout the week, Sanders did not practice on Aug. 19.
With QB Tyler Huntley also an option to play, the Browns have four quarterbacks who will be dressed against the Rams.
How long Stefanski will play Flacco is unknown, but Flacco's playing time will help decide how many snaps the other quarterbacks will get. Sanders has already played nearly three quarters of preseason football against the Panthers while Gabriel played the first half against the Eagles. Huntley played the offensive drives that the two rookie quarterbacks were on the sidelines in their respective games.
"Rookie development never ends, and player development never ends. I've told you guys before, we're obsessive about that, especially at the quarterback position, but at all positions," Stefanski said on Aug. 19. "So, those guys will constantly be working and constantly be taking advantage of all the resources in this building. Going back to the original point with Joe (Flacco), they're in every meeting and they need to prepare to start."
