The Baltimore Ravens' injury concern regarding star quarterback Lamar Jackson has taken an unfortunate turn.
During Wednesday's practice, it was initially reported that Jackson suffered a wrist/hand injury and was on the practice field for a few moments. Shortly after that, it was revealed that Jackson was "stepped on," and representatives of the team claimed that he was fine.
Despite reports of an injury mishap involving Jackson getting stepped on, he has now received an even more confusing update.
Jackson is not practicing on Thursday, which could point to a much larger injury. NFL insider Adam Schefter did state that Jackson was "flexing" his arm while walking into the training facility.
There are conflicting reports about what occurred, but Jackson missing a practice is sure to give fans a bit more to worry about. To be fair, getting stepped on is something that might take a day or two to heal from as well.
The concern now lies in whether Jackson suffered anything significant to his hand or wrist, and the Ravens are keeping that information from coming out.
Any significant injury to Jackson would severely derail the Ravens' season, especially if the plan is to have a hot start to begin the regular season. Baltimore does not have an easy first four-game stretch, so they will need Jackson to be completely healthy.
The Ravens face the Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, and Kansas City Chiefs in their first four games. Three of the four are heavy playoff favorites, and the Browns are a divisional rival.
Without Jackson in the lineup, it would be hard to imagine the Ravens winning the majority of these contests. Cooper Rush is the backup quarterback and is a viable player, but throwing him against some of the toughest teams in the NFL would likely lead to a less-than-favorable opening record.
