Everton could have the opportunity to seal a transfer that would have David Moyes’ fingerprints all over it.
The Toffees fell to a disappointing defeat to Leeds United in their opening Premier League game, and it was a result that highlighted their desperate need for further incomings before the 1 September deadline.
Moyes hasn’t hidden his frustrations with Everton’s business so far, and the 62-year-old has made it clear that he needs more quality in his squad if he is to fulfil the lofty expectations for the team this season.
Time is running out for the Merseysiders to pull off the work that they need in the window, but the free agent market could provide a valuable lifeline.

Everton make contact over Jamie Vardy move
Everton have made contact with Jamie Vardy over a potential move, as the former Leicester frontman is still yet to decide on the next step in his career.
The Toffees are among a big group of clubs to have shown an interest in taking the 38-year-old, who is a free agent after his release earlier in the summer.
Vardy has been heavily linked with a move to Celtic over the last few days, but any potential deal is seemingly still a fair distance away from completion.

Ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – believes that a move for the veteran is the sort of deal that would greatly appeal to Moyes.
“I think that would be a typical David Moyes move,” King said.
“You couldn’t get any better in terms of scoring goals than Vardy, he’s been doing it ever since he came from non-league.
“The thing with Celtic, of course, is that his old manager is up there in Brendan Rodgers.
“If I were Everton, I’d be interested in Vardy because he’ll score goals this season, I’m sure of that, no matter who he goes to.”

Everton could be a good move for Jamie Vardy
A move to Everton could be a good fit for Vardy at this stage of his career.
The Toffees have enough other options to lead the line to ensure that he would not have a particularly challenging workload, but there is also enough reason for him to be a key part of the squad.
Moyes is a boss who has a reputation for getting the best out of players, and that could certainly appeal to the frontman in the final stages of his time in the game.
Vardy may not be the player that he was once, but he still has a clinical eye for goal, and would certainly be capable of playing an important role for Everton.
