The Celtics officially changed ownership this week as the team announced it was sold to Bill Chisholm and his investment group. A lot has been written about the new top guy in Chisholm, but as part of the news release, there were multiple new co-owners who will be involved with the Celtics going forward.
One of those new names is Mario Ho as he was announced and included in the news release. Soon after the sale became official, Ho posted on social media talking about how happy he was now that he’s a part owner of the Celtics.
“I’m proud to announce I’ve become a Co-Owner and Board Member of the Boston Celtics!” Ho wrote on social media. “Thank you Bill, for letting me join the consortium and this record breaking deal. As a lifelong Celtics fan, I’ll continue to give my everything to the organization; the responsibilities officially start now! Tears of joy cloud my eyes as I write all this, this is undoubtedly one of the happiest moments of my life.”
Ho, 30, is the son of casino magnate Stanley Ho. The younger Ho is also known as the youngest founder of a Nasdaq-listed company in Asia. He graduated from MIT, and as mentioned in his post, is a huge Celtics fan. On his social media includes a post about meeting former C’s co-owner Steve Pagliuca at TD Garden for a game.
The Celtics were sold for a record $6.1 billion to Chisholm and his group back in March. Chisholm is the governor of the team going forward. Wyc Grousbeck will also stay on as a co-owner, CEO and alternate governor. Aditya Mittal, reportedly the second-largest stakeholder of the C’s, is also an alternate governor.
Other Celtics co-owners include Rob Hale, Bruce Beal, Andrew Bialecki, Dom Ferrante and Ian Loring. Private equity firm Sixth Street is also a “major participant” of the ownership group, per the official release.
“This truly is a dream come true for me and my family,” Chisholm said in a statement. “I feel so fortunate to be here as part of this new investor group, who are accomplished, driven people who care deeply about the Celtics and the Boston community. On behalf of our group, I am thrilled to partner with Wyc, Brad Stevens and Rich Gotham to move this outstanding organization forward. We are committed to building on the legacy of the Celtics and raising banners, and I can’t wait for the team to get back out there this fall.”
