Maresca Reveals Chelsea Team News Ahead of West Ham Clash

Enzo Maresca spoke to the media and provided key updates ahead of Saturday’s Premier League game against West Ham, with the head coach discussing availability, player futures and pushing for improved performances as the season ramps up.

Defensive boost but attacking uncertainty

Maresca confirmed a double boost at the back with Tosin Adarabioyo and Wesley Fofana both available. Tosin, who sat out the Palace match, is fully fit again, and Fofana has recovered from his long-term injury problem. Romeo Lavia and Benoit Badiashile however, are still out and working on their recovery.

The head coach also spoke about Aaron Anselmino’s circumstances, saying the Argentine teenager is working hard in training but needs regular match minutes elsewhere. “He is a fantastic boy… but he needs to go and play games,” Maresca said, confirming the club is seeking a loan solution to aid his development.

Jackson and Nkunku left out

In attack, Maresca said he left out Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku, despite their fitness, because of uncertainty over their futures. Maresca hinted that a transfer could benefit all sides: “If they are going to be here, they will be with us. If not, it means they found a solution. I think it’s better if they find a solution because they are going to be more happy.”

He also confirmed that Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell are currently training separately while the club resolves their situations.

Looking ahead to the clash, Maresca expects a tough battle: “All the Premier League games are difficult. They defended very well last season — I expect the same.”

Author’s View

Maresca’s words suggest a clear focus on stability and control. Getting Tosin and Fofana back strengthens Chelsea’s defence, but uncertainty up front remains a problem. Chelsea must resolve Jackson and Nkunku’s situations quickly to build rhythm, momentum and confidence early in the campaign.
