Man United hopeful Spurs will rival Chelsea for winger

Manchester United head to West London on Sunday to face Fulham in their first away game of the new Premier League season.

Ruben Amorim’s side were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal at Old Trafford in their season opener, and the Portuguese will hope to see his side register their first points of the season when they visit Craven Cottage.

This summer has been a busy one for the Red Devils, with plenty of incomings and outgoings at the club.

One player that has been heavily linked with a move away from United is winger Alejandro Garnacho, and it appears that the Manchester club are now hoping one of their rivals will join the race to sign him.

According to GiveMeSport, Man United are hoping that Tottenham Hotspur will rival Chelsea for the signing of Garnacho.

The Blues have been linked with a move for the Argentine for much of the summer but have so far refused to meet United’s valuation of the 21-year-old.

It is claimed, however, that the Red Devils are aware that Chelsea will only come close to meeting their demands if they face competition for the player’s signature.

Garnacho joined United’s youth system from Atletico Madrid in 2020 and has since progressed into the first team, making more than 140 appearances for the club across all competitions.

He has registered a combined 48 goals and assists in that time, but has fallen somewhat out of favour since Amorim’s arrival in November and didn’t start United’s Europa League final defeat against Tottenham in May.

It is claimed that United have encouraged Spurs to reignite their interest in the Argentina international, as they are aware that they may otherwise have to accept a low offer from Chelsea in order to ensure the player does depart before the close of the current transfer window.
