England captain Leah Williamson will miss the start of the new Women's Super League season due to a knee injury.
The Arsenal defender sustained the problem during England's European Championship final triumph over Spain last month.
She underwent a successful procedure last week to clean up swelling in her right knee and has begun rehabilitation.
Williamson is expected to be out for several weeks, impacting Arsenal's opening WSL match on 6 September.
This latest injury is not believed to be directly linked to a previous anterior cruciate ligament rupture in the same knee.
