The two changes Enzo Maresca has to make against West Ham as Chelsea receive major injury boost - opinion

Enzo Maresca may feel tempted to tweak his Chelsea team on Friday following their 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace.

Chelsea face West Ham United at the London Stadium, looking for their first win of the season after a disappointing result and performance last weekend.

The last time they were in east London, Chelsea beat West Ham 3-0, with Nicolas Jackson scoring a brace that day.

If Maresca does decide he wants to make changes to his side to increase their chances of replicating that result, there are at least two tweaks that the Italian has to make.

Estevao Willian and Tosin Adarabioyo should start at London Stadium

Chelsea fans will be desperate for Estevao Willian to make his first competitive start for the club on Friday, and Maresca should grant them their wish.

Since making his unofficial debut for Chelsea in pre-season, Estevao has shown why there is so much excitement surrounding his name.

Estevao scored in a 2-0 friendly win against Bayer Leverkusen, and in the draw with Palace, he showed really good footwork during his cameo. As per Sofascore, the 18-year-old was able to complete two successful dribbles while on the pitch.

Tosin Adarabioyo is another player who should also be starting following Levi Colwill’s ACL injury. Maresca has stated publicly that the 27-year-old is the only other defender in Chelsea’s squad who can carry out Colwill’s role efficiently.

Josh Acheampong is learning to, but the Chelsea academy product is still only 19 and will need time before he is able to master the role.

Adarabioyo trained on Wednesday after missing the Palace game because of injury. In his pre-match press conference, Maresca confirmed that the former Fulham man is available for the trip to West Ham.

Wesley Fofana was named on the bench for the Palace game, so he could be another option to start. But you just cannot trust his fitness at the moment.

Jamie Gittens and Josh Acheampong to make way

If Estevao comes into the side, it probably makes sense for Jamie Gittens to drop out. Like the Brazil international, he obviously has a lot of talent and potential.

But the former Borussia Dortmund man flattered to deceive last time out against Palace. He looked like a threat when dribbling, which was also the case during pre-season, but that final ball has been lacking.

Acheampong did not do too much wrong during the Palace game, but being less experienced than Trevoh Chalobah and not having the chance to prove that he is as consistent as the 26-year-old yet, it would be safer to switch him for Adarabioyo.
