Marc Guehi condition explained and Harvey Elliott preference emerges: Thursday's Liverpool transfer round-up

Liverpool still have just under two weeks to add any extra players they’d like to their ranks.

The Reds have been one of the busiest teams in the transfer market this summer, with their Premier League rivals trying to match their moves.

And, although Liverpool have spent over £250million, their net spend is still well below that of Arsenal’s, which proves how well they’ve done to sell their talent.

Here, Rousing the Kop delves into some of the biggest transfer stories to have emerged from Anfield on Thursday, 21 August.

Liverpool to enter transfer battle with Manchester City for Rodrygo

Liverpool’s attack is the area that has changed the most within Arne Slot’s ranks this season.

The Dutchman has brought in the likes of Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz to improve his team, and it doesn’t look like he’s stopping there.

As per a report from Brazilian journalist Canal do Nicola, it seems like there’s a two-horse race between Manchester City and Liverpool to sign Rodrygo from Real Madrid.

The attacker is said to be valued at around £78million and, if the Reds don’t manage to sign Alexander Isak, he’d be an impressive back-up option who could play across the front three if needed.

Kostas Tsimikas has been on the chopping block since the start of the summer transfer window.

The left-back is now Slot’s third choice at the club due to the addition of Milos Kerkez at the start of the window.

And now, as per a report from Santi Aouna, the Greek Scouser is wanted by Marseille.

There was a time this summer when it looked likely that Tsimikas would be staying at Anfield, but since Atletico Madrid didn’t end up making a move for Andy Robertson, it’s the Greece international who needs to go.

Liverpool could ‘step up’ their interest in Marc Guehi over the weekend

Much like Rodrygo, Marc Guehi has long been linked with an Anfield switch as the Reds are reportedly on the lookout for defensive reinforcement.

The Englishman has entered the final year of his current contract with Crystal Palace, and unless he’s sold this summer, he’s likely to leave upon the expiry of his deal.

However, as per a report from Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol, if things go well for Palace in the Europa Conference League on Thursday, the Eagles may be willing to let their captain depart after all.

Guehi would be a stellar addition to Liverpool’s first-team squad, and his arrival would provide healthy competition for Ibrahima Konate, who has also entered the final year of his contract.

Liverpool would prefer to keep hold of Harvey Elliott this summer

Another player who has been in the transfer headlines at Liverpool this season is Harvey Elliott.

The midfielder is now 22 years old, and with players such as Dominik Szoboszlai and Wirtz ahead of him in Slot’s plans, there’s no easy way for him into the Reds’ starting XI.

Which is why it likely comes as a bit of a surprise that, as per a report from journalist Ben Jacobs, Slot’s preference over Elliott is to keep him.

Jacobs outlines that the Dutchman sees him as a valuable member of his squad, but if he wants guaranteed football, he wouldn’t stand in Elliott’s way should he choose to exit.
