Leeds United star’s stance on transfer after latest £4M development

Leeds United went into this summer knowing the club needed a new number one. Illan Meslier was benched for Karl Darlow as the tail end of last season. Many expected Meslier to leave the club this summer.

Leeds then bought Lucas Perri from Lyon; the Whites spent most of the pre-season with four goalkeepers in the team. With the Premier League approaching, Daniel Farke revealed his pecking order for the position:

”Karl is ahead of [Meslier] in the pecking order at the moment.

”He had a fantastic finish last season and also really good pre-season. So there’s no need for me to change the order.

”Meslier was more or less number 2 behind Karl. Karl doesn’t give me any reason to change the pecking order.”

The French keeper was left out of the squad for the win against Everton at Elland Road. Meslier could be seen in the tunnel after the game; he did not suit up to play on the night.

Meslier was reportedly offered to clubs around Europe to see who would take him off Leeds’ hands. He had some interest from France including PSG and Lille. Meslier’s boyhood club Lorient are currently interested in a move and are weighing up their options.

According to Il Giorno in Italy, the French keeper has emerged as an option for Serie A side Como. He is currently being offered at a fee of £4million with over a week to go in the transfer window. The report also adds that Como coach Cesc Fabregas is evaluating where to make an approach.

What Leeds United star’s representatives have said about offer

In the same report, it has been stated that Meslier’s representatives will only consider a move to Italy if he will become Como’s first choice keeper. Earlier this summer there were suggestions that he could stay at Elland Road and see out his contract next summer. And with just days to go till the transfer window closes, he could make that decision if no concrete offers come his way.
