The father of NBA star Jaylen Brown has been charged with a stabbing that took place Wednesday night at a Las Vegas park. Quenton M. Brown, 57, who reportedly goes by his middle name Marselles, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an altercation over a parking space at at All American Park ended in a stabbing that left one person injured.

The arrest comes after KSNV News published a report about the incident being reported at 5:42 p.m. local time. According to police, when officers arrived on the scene they found the victim had been stabbed in the stomach. The suspect, which turned out to be the 2024 NBA Finals MVP’s father, had fled the scene. The victim was taken to a hospital to undergo surgery.

Arrest report and witness statements

In the arrest report obtained by KSNV News, the Las Vegas Metro Police Department stated witnesses told them that the altercation started because of a “door ding.”

The girlfriend of the man who was stabbed said they were sitting in the parking lot when an SUV parked in the spot next to them. When the passenger exited the SUV, the door hit the victim’s driver’s side door. When the victim got out of his car to check for any damage, she claims that the passenger from the SUV was confrontational and called her boyfriend a “b—- a–.” Her boyfriend then slapped the side mirror on the SUV and the SUV passenger asked him if “he wanted to go.” He did.

She claims that when her boyfriend turned his back to the SUV passenger, the man “briskly walked after him while producing [an] unknown object from his right side” and “swung his arm in a straight stabbing motion and struck [her boyfriend] in his back.” After taking several more punches to the stomach, she says they got into her car and drove to a nearby pharmacy to wait for an ambulance.

Another witness, unrelated to the people involved in the incident, claimed to police that they say the taller man swing a knife at the skinnier man “25 times.” The victim was listed in critical condition at the hospital following the incident after suffering stab wounds to his back, upper right clavicle area and left hand, in addition to a broken rib.

When police found Brown, a former boxer who went 33-18-1 during his career, he had abrasions on his knees and was bleeding from his face. He also allegedly “spontaneously uttered that this was all over a door ding without being asked any questions by Patrol officers.” Police reported that the knife was not located.

Quenton M. Brown’s first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
