Fulham have second thoughts about sealing summer move for £100,000-a-week Arsenal wide man

Fulham are yet to decide on their pursuit of Reiss Nelson due to concerns over his fitness and longevity ahead of the new season.

According to Give Me Sport, Fulham have not decided on their pursuit of Reiss Nelson, following some internal concerns over the winger. Arsenal are ready to sell the academy graduate, but over at Craven Cottage, they have considerable doubts about his fitness levels and whether he will last the entire season.

Reiss Nelson appeared to be a solid acquisition for Fulham last season, with the Arsenal attacker moving there on loan late last summer. His performances at Craven Cottage did catch Marco Silva’s eye, as he steadily grew towards making himself a key part of the first team setup.

As he continued to grow in the team and was probably improving his performances, a serious hamstring injury struck the winger, which ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign. Nelson has since returned to Arsenal and taken part in their pre-season. However, he does not have a long-term future at the club.

Arsenal have probably wrapped up their incoming business with the terrific signing of Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace. The England international will be their seventh senior recruit of the window, and the club are now set to aggressively focus on outgoings, with Reiss Nelson very much part of that group, the club are eager to sell.

Fulham had been keen on re-signing Nelson, while they had also briefly looked at Oleksandr Ziunchenko as an additional target. The talk in the media has been primarily about another loan, with a possible buy option or obligation at the end of the season.

Fulham have doubts about Reiss Nelson

Nelson was reportedly close to joining Fulham at one stage, but the news around the transfer has cooled down considerably over the last few weeks. Nelson has two years left on his £100,000-a-week contract, and Arsenal would now prefer a deal where they are guaranteed a figure at the end of a loan deal.

Fulham have had doubts over his long-term fitness following the serious injury sustained last season. They are also chasing Shakhtar Donetsk’s Kevin as a key option to strengthen their left wing, a position that Reiss Nelson usually takes up. Hence, there are considerable doubts about the Cottagers signing the £100,000-a-week Arsenal wide man this window, although things could still change in the latter stages of the window.
