Tottenham make calls to sign 23-year-old Aston Villa star after Arsenal hijack key move

Tottenham are switching their attention towards Morgan Rogers as an alternative for their attack after Arsenal hijacked the Eberechi Eze deal.

Fabrizio Romano has stated that Tottenham have Morgan Rogers as an alternative on their list to Eberechi Eze. The North Londoners lost out on the latter to bitter rivals Arsenal, and they could embark on a potentially difficult chase to lure the 23-year-old Aston Villa star as an alternative of sorts.

Tottenham have had a mixed window so far, despite the signings of Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palhinha. They also ensured new captain Cristian Romero was tied down to a new deal following rumours of a potential exit with Atletico Madrid looming in the background.

Spurs had chased and failed with a move for Morgan Gibbs-White amid controversial circumstances, which pointed towards their desire to recruit a new attacking midfielder. To add to their woes, James Maddison suffered a potential season-ending ACL injury that then forced Tottenham into the market to land a new No.10.

Spurs had a verbal agreement in place for Eberechi Eze, with the Crystal Palace star appearing set to join the club in the coming period. However, on Wednesday, following a knee injury sustained by Kai Havertz, Arsenal swiftly entered the race and found an agreement with Palace, with Eze now set to join the Gunners in the next few days.

Tottenham are now in limbo over their next target, and were certainly dealt a blow in pursuit of Eze. They have a few alternatives in mind, including Morgan Rogers of Aston Villa, but the circumstances surrounding the England international could prove tricky, especially with the time remaining in the window.

Morgan Rogers deal is difficult for Spurs

On paper, Rogers could be a good enough alternative for Tottenham after losing out on Eze. However, Aston Villa may not sell him, and the midfielder could be set to stay following the exit of Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle United, which is the first hurdle for Spurs in the pursuit of the 23-year-old Aston Villa star.

Then there is the issue of the price tag, with the 23-year-old Aston Villa star likely to cost a premium fee in the time remaining in the window. Morgan Rogers is also expected to be offered a new deal by the club, and even if he does not want to sign the extension, his current deal still lasts until 2030, which makes any move in this window short of impossible for Spurs.
