West Ham United are moving to sign Raphael Onyedika after allowing Edson Alvarez to leave, according to Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
The Hammers have had a decent summer so far under Graham Potter, with the English coach bringing in El Hadji Malick Diouf, Kyle Walker-Peters, Callum Wilson and Mads Hermansen to strengthen the squad.
Mohammed Kudus was sold to Tottenham, and a number of players were allowed to leave at the end of their contracts, and now Potter has made the decision to allow Edson Alvarez to move on too, which has opened the door for a new midfield signing too.
West Ham Back in For Onyedika
Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika
Onyedika, who has been described as 'fantastic', was previously identified as a top target for the midfield prior to the summer window, but a move never materialised.
The Nigeria international, who currently plays for Club Brugge, previously agreed personal terms with the Hammers ahead of a move, but the club struggled to move any other midfielders on and a deal looked to be on the shelf once more.
But with Alvarez set to join Fenerbahce on a season-long loan with an option to buy in the coming days, the Hammers have now re-entered the race for the 24-year-old to strengthen the side.
The Hammers are now monitoring the player's situation in the final weeks of the window, and are aware that the player, whose playing style has been compared to Thomas Partey, would be open to moving to the Premier League before the September 1st deadline.
The club have been looking to bolster their midfield and have had offers rejected for Southampton star Mateus Fernandes and Chelsea's Andrey Santos, and it seems they are now going back in for Onyedika in a deal they know is there for them to get over the line quickly and more easily.
