Liverpool would make 'reluctant' Elliott transfer decision

Liverpool reportedly prefer to keep Harvey Elliott at the club amid interest from RB Leipzig.

Elliott moved to Anfield from Fulham in 2019 and has become an important player for the club, managing 15 goals in 148 games, with most of his appearances coming under Jurgen Klopp.

The left-footed winger found game time hard to come by under Arne Slot, but he still ended up scoring seven goals for the club in all competitions.

The 22-year-old has expressed his love for Liverpool, but at the same time, he understands that he needs to play regularly to take his game to the next level.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the German club are still working on a deal to sign Elliott, but the two clubs have yet to reach an agreement.

Liverpool are happy to keep Elliott with them, but at the right price, they would reluctantly sanction the player's exit, because of his desire to play regularly.

If Elliott stays, the Reds will happily welcome him, as he remains a valued squad player.

The exciting winger, however, was an unused substitute in the 4-2 win against AFC Bournemouth and managed only six minutes in the Community Shield, which gives a clear indication of his position in Slot's team.

It comes as a bit of a surprise that Liverpool are willing to let Elliott go after selling Ben Doak to Bournemouth this summer.

The Reds are short of options in their attacking areas after selling Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez this summer, and the tragic demise of Diogo Jota.

Florian Plettenberg claimed that Leipzig have agreed personal terms with Elliott, with Liverpool looking for a fee of around £40m with a buy-back clause or £50m without.

Elliott is Leipzig's top target to replace Xavi Simons, who reportedly wants to join Chelsea this summer, and it feels like his exit from Anfield could be the best solution for all parties involved.
