Morgan Rogers has commented on the speculation linking him with an exit from Aston Villa this summer, having seen the likes of Chelsea strongly interested in his signature,

Rogers has proven to be a revelation for Villa since joining them from Middlesbrough for €9.4 million in January 2024, with the 23-year-old winning the PFA Young Player of the Year award this week for his performances last season.

The England international’s displays have seen him pursued by a number of clubs, however Villa have never considered his sale even with their ongoing financial issues.

Rogers himself has insisted he is happy at Villa and only focusing on his football, although he admitted he ‘cannot predict’ what his future holds beyond this season.

“I’m happy here,” Rogers told The Times" href="https://www.thetimes.com/sport/football/article/morgan-rogers-interview-aston-villa-rejection-kcg6cr9jt" target="_blank">The Times. “I love football. I love nothing more than just coming out on the pitch and playing football and that’s what I’m doing.

“I don’t think about anything else. I can’t predict the next 12 months or anything in the future. It’s just about playing football, enjoying my football and showing everyone what I can do.”

Chelsea hope Villa interest in striker could facilitate Rogers transfer

Rogers is contracted to Villa until 2030 and the midfielder claimed his focus is on securing a place in England’s World Cup squad next summer and getting Unai Emery’s side back into the Champions League.

Chelsea have been willing to test Villa’s resolve with a €80m approach but they have not received any welcome from their Premier League rivals, while Rogers has also not pushed for a move.

However, Chelsea could leverage Villa’s interest in Nicolas Jackson in any potential move for Rogers, knowing that Emery’s men would be unlikely to afford the striker’s transfer fee otherwise.

Jackson is among Villa’s top targets to strengthen their front line this summer but Rogers is still expected to remain at the club as Chelsea aim to focus on signing Alejandro Garnacho instead before the end of the month.

Leipzig could turn to Chelsea star as Simons replacement

Leipzig are already understood to have agreed personal terms" href="https://www.footballtransfers.com/en/transfer-news/uk-premier-league/2025/08/chelsea-transfer-news-xavi-simons-leipzig-liverpool-harvey-elliott" target="_blank">already understood to have agreed personal terms to sign a potential replacement for Simons in Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott as the Bundesliga side resign themselves to losing their talismanic youngster.

Simons had expressed his desire to leave Leipzig at the end of last season after they failed to qualify for European football, with the Dutchman also having less than two years remaining on his contract.

Leizpig are believed to be holding out for around €70 million for Simons, while Chelsea will need to resolve the future of Nkunku before being able to sign their target.
