Manchester United’s new season have not started as expected. A 1-0 loss to Arsenal made it clear that last year’s problems are far from over. The team played well in the opening minutes, but a mistake by Altay Bayindir ruined everything, resulting in a header by Riccardo Calafiori.
United then looked for an equaliser, bringing on Benjamin Sesko, but Bryan Mbeumo’s two attempts failed. Just a year ago, the team finished 15th in the league table, lost the Europa League final to Tottenham and are now out of European competition. In these circumstances, the club signed new attackers such as Mbeumo, Cunha and Sesko in the summer, while questions are now being raised about Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

According to Get Football News, PSV Eindhoven are now preparing to sign Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee. The Dutch club are looking for a new forward following Alassane Plea’s long-term injury, and local media have claimed that Zirkzee is their ‘dream candidate’. PSV are said to be making the official move very soon as they feel this deal will be the best for them.

United’s situation make matters more complicated. Both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failed to live up to expectations last season. The lack of goals held the entire team back, and eventually the club finished the season in 15th place. This is why Ruben Amorim made a big change in the attacking players in the summer.
Sesko was bought as a striker, while Cunha and Mbeumo were brought in to further intensify the attack. The impact of this change was evident in the very first match, where Amorim kept Hojlund out of the squad, giving a clear indication that he is no longer trusted.
Similarly, Zirkzee’s future is also in limbo. The Dutchman never became a regular starter for United, and when given the opportunity, his performances lacked edge. Now Amorim plans to promote Sesko, and in such a situation, Zirkzee will get even less game time. PSV’s offer could be a chance for the Dutchman to return to prominence, especially since he could be given a key role there. For United, this deal could also become a way to lighten the squad.
Opinion:
Now the question is whether United should send Zirkzee to PSV. In my opinion, after the arrival of Sesko, Cunha and Mbeumo, United have enough depth in attack. In such a situation, letting Zirkzee go will not affect the strength of the team much. Rather, it will improve the balance of the squad and open up space for younger players.
As for Zirkzee, a return to the Netherlands could be the right move for him. He will get regular playing time at PSV, which will restore his confidence and also strengthen his chances for the 2026 World Cup. Sitting at United could put his career on hold.
Amorim is clearly inclined towards new signings, so selling the 24-year-old would seem like a strategic decision. Still, there is a small concern that he may start performing well at PSV, and United may lose a player whose true potential has not yet been revealed, but given the current circumstances, going the other way seems better for both him and the club.
However, we don’t think that if Hojlund is sold, the Dutchman should be kept in the squad, as we need depth, but if we think that a deal for the Dane is tough to get through at this moment, then we can let go of Zirkzee. However, either one of them has to stay. Meanwhile, Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho is unwilling to accept a pay cut to make a Serie A switch.
