Receiver Help? Jets Suggested To Make Intra-Division Trade

Building around quarterback Justin Fields and star receiver Garrett Wilson seems to be the plan for the New York Jets.

With reports during the week of New York searching for help at receiver, Bleacher Report's Alex Kay has suggested a rare intra-division trade between the Jets and the New England Patriots.

Kay has suggested that the Jets send a seventh-round pick to New England in exchange for veteran wide receiver Kendrick Bourne.

"Kendrick Bourne may not be the most exciting pickup for the squad, but he's a reliable veteran who could be an asset in the Big Apple," Kay wrote. "With New England dealing with one of the league's most crowded receiving corps, it shouldn't cost more than a late-Day 3 pick to acquire the 30-year-old."

Bourne is entering the ninth season of his NFL career, having spent four with the San Francisco 49ers and four with the Patriots. His best season came back in 2021 when he collected a career-high 800 receiving yards and five touchdowns.

The emergence of Patriots rookie Efton Chism III in the preseason may have hurt Bourne's chances of a starting role for New England, so a trade and fresh start may not be the worst-case scenario.

A trade would allow the Patriots to get some kind of return for a player that they are otherwise planning on releasing prior to August 26, the day that 53-man rosters must be finalized.

The Jets, though, could wait for Bourne to be released and save themselves a future draft pick to be traded closer to the NFL trade deadline or to simply just use in next year's draft.
