Jadon Sancho wants more money to leave Manchester United this summer transfer window
Any supporter would be disappointed to see the condition of Manchester United in the very first match of the Premier League. The 1-0 defeat against Arsenal made it clear that the bitter stories of last season are still not over. Initially, United held the ball and showed control in the match, but then a mistake by Altay Bayindir ruined all the hard work.
He made a mistake in catching the ball properly on a corner, and Riccardo Calafiori capitalised on that opportunity and scored a goal with a header. After this, an attempt was made to come back into the match. Benjamin Sesko was sent to the field to add sharpness to the attack, but the equaliser could not be scored.
Bryan Mbeumo raised hopes with a brilliant bicycle kick and a powerful header, but David Raya saved the goal and gave Arsenal the win. The result was that the season started with a defeat, and the pressure increased further.
Jadon Sancho’s situation and United’s difficulties

Manchester United’s problems are visible not only on the field but also in the transfer market. The team finished 15th in the Premier League last season and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur. After being eliminated from European competitions, the club’s biggest challenge now are to sell their unsuccessful and unwanted players.
Jadon Sancho has become the biggest name among them. Talks were held with Roma, but the player himself stepped back. The reason is clear—Roma are not ready to give the winger the huge amount he is earning at United. According to reports, United had planned to sell him for around £20m, but Sancho refused to move to Roma.
Former Everton and Aston Villa CEO Keith Wyness said on this issue that the transfer is getting stuck due to Sancho’s current salary. He indicated that no player would want to leave such a big contract easily. Wyness said if the deal was to go through, the club would have to resort to some “financial measure” that would force Sancho to compromise on his terms. He added that the risk for Roma is huge because the 25-year-old has disappointed with his performances at previous clubs and even in loan spells. That’s why United feel trapped – with a player who is sitting on a huge salary but is not living up to expectations on the pitch. (Via Football Insider).
“I spoke to somebody involved in the transaction just the other day and they said, yes, it is the size of his remuneration at Man United that is the problem.
“Why would a player give up that sort of level of contract? It’s very rare that you see that happen, particularly in terms of the gap right now between the valuation that Roma have as opposed to what he’s getting paid at the moment.
“There’s going to have to be some serious financial engineering to get that done.
“I don’t know if there’s a way that they can come up with some formula of extending his contract payments. There’s got to be some clever way.
“I’ve often looked at very smart ways to try and extend contracts to lessen the amount paid. There are different ways that you can go about it.
“There are different financial tools available now to try and do these sort of things. But still in the end, it’s basically a bigger number than Roma value the player at.
“And the player’s got to decide, does he want to play football again and revitalise his career?
“Now, we’ve seen Sancho not turn it on in a couple of places and even on loan, so certainly there’s a bigger question mark for Roma there.”
Sancho’s situation begs the question: Is the player doing the right thing? On one hand, he is missing out on a chance to save his career, while on the other, he is not willing to give up a hefty salary. From a fan’s point of view, if a player wants to revive his career, he should prioritise playing regularly on the pitch. That opportunity could have been provided at Roma, but Sancho valued money more.
The “financial measure” that Keith Wyness talked about sounds interesting, but in reality, such experiments are rarely successful. In modern football clubs are strict about their budgets and salary structures. It would not be wise for a team like Roma to spend such a large sum despite the player’s past failures.
Finally, Roma will have to consider whether they should bet on a player as unstable as Sancho. As United supporters, we can say that if a club buy him, it will be a relief for United, but this decision could prove to be a big risk for Roma, as the situation is uncertain on both performance and financial fronts. However, one thing is certain that we are stuck with Sancho, as on the other hand, Alan Shearer warns Ruben Amorim and Manchester United to strengthen their goalkeeping position.
