CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- One of the biggest acquisitions for the Steelers this offseason is making his debut in the Black and Gold Thursday night. Defensive back Jalen Ramsey got the start for the Steelers as they wrap up preseason play against the Carolina Panthers.
Ramsey was on the field with the Steelers first-team defense for the opening series for the final tune-up game for Pittsburgh before the season opener at the Jets on Sept. 7.
The Steelers landed Jalen Ramsey this offseason in a trade that saw them give up All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.
Ramsey is a seven-time Pro Bowler who has been named a first-team All-Pro three times. The former Florida State star also won a Super Bowl while playing for the Rams.
His salary for the 2025 season is approximately $26.6 million.
Steelers players have praised Ramsey throughout the preseason, stating that he brings an attitude and ability to the Pittsburgh defense that will pay off during the 2025 season.
“He’s one of my favorite players, favorite corners, I’ve played against,” Steelers receiver Robert Woods said. “Just his energy that he brings to come out here every single day and show up. He doesn’t give any breaks, any passes.”
Ramsey is also incredibly versatile, able to line up at safety, outside corner or nickel.
Pittsburgh quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who was another huge addition this offseason, is looking forward to seeing how the Steelers use Ramsey in 2025.
“He’s a very versatile guy. As we were walking to the (cafeteria) one of these days, I was reminding him how Charles Woodson, late in his career, moved to safety. And there’s, you know, truly only a few elite guys who’ve done everything that he’s done,” Rodgers said. “If you think about it, you can play outside corner and dominate. You can play nickel and dominate and go to safety and be a dominant player. I think he can do all three of those things.”
