Matt LaFleur Shuts Down Rumors Of WR Being Cut

The Green Bay Packers enter the season with questions surrounding their wide receiver depth chart.

Multiple players are in contract years, including Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs, who are both finishing their rookie deals.

The team also selected two receivers within the first three rounds of the draft, creating additional competition for roster spots.

Recent speculation suggested Romeo Doubs might face an uncertain future with the franchise.

Head coach Matt LaFleur quickly dismissed those concerns during his Thursday appearance on the Up & Adams Show.

“Rome, I’d be very shocked if he ever was going anywhere… No, that will not happen,” LaFleur said.

LaFleur reinforced his confidence in Doubs by highlighting the receiver’s consistent production and reliability.

He described Doubs as someone who delivers what the team needs while competing at a high level. The coach also praised his character, calling him a dependable teammate who can always be counted on.

Any doubts about Doubs’ roster security seemed unfounded given his role throughout training camp. Despite dealing with injuries at the position, Green Bay kept Doubs with the first team.

He regularly lined up ahead of Jayden Reed and contributed in various personnel packages.

The Packers currently have five receivers who appear locked into roster spots. That group includes Doubs, Matthew Golden, Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, and Savion Williams.

Behind them, Malik Heath and Mecole Hardman are battling for what could be a sixth receiver position.

LaFleur also emphasized that the preseason finale against the Seattle Seahawks will play a crucial role in determining the final depth chart arrangement.

With this being the final year of his rookie contract, his performance will be closely monitored as both sides evaluate future possibilities.
