Cherries host Wolves in first home game of season: Team news and preview

Vitor Pereira’s side are the first visitors to Dean Court of the season, with both teams coming into the game after defeats in their opening matches.

The Daily Echo previews Saturday’s game.

**Team news**

Andoni Iraola could see his squad bolstered by a number of faces who weren’t a part of last week’s game at Liverpool.

Ryan Christie has been training with the Cherries, with the trip to Merseyside too soon for a return, so the Scot may be in line to come back into the match day squad, although he has missed all of pre-season.

The club have also added new faces to the squad this week, with Ben Gannon Doak joining on Monday and Amine Adli arriving in Bournemouth in midweek to finalise his move from Bayer Leverkusen.

Justin Kluivert may return soon, but the Dutchman was not yet in training ahead of the Liverpool game, so if he has returned, a spot on the bench may be the best to hope for.

Enes Unal and Lewis Cook remain long-term injuries.

**Head-to-head**

The Cherries have the marginally better record over their visitors on Saturday, although the hosts will be hoping to get one back on Wolves after they were beaten at home in the league last season.

Bournemouth have won 10 of the 22 games between the two sides, with Wolves taking eight and with four draws.

The two sides met three times last season, with the Cherries winning two to Wolves’ one.

The first game saw Andoni Iraola’s side beat Gary O’Neil’s team 4-2 in a crazy game at Molineux, with Justin Kluivert netting a hattrick of penalties.

O’Neil was sacked before the two sides met in the return fixture at Dean Court, which was characterised by a sending off, as Illia Zabarnyi was given his marching orders with half an hour on the clock.

Cunha was again on the scoresheet as he cancelled out Evanilson’s opener, with the game going to penalties and the Cherries booking their spot in the quarterfinals on spot kicks.

**Form**

Both sides have lost their only league game of the season so far.

The Cherries were beaten at Anfield but they gave an excellent account of themselves, falling to a 4-2 defeat on the night.

Despite going 2-0 down, they fought back with an Antonine Semenyo brace bringing the visitors back level.

Wolves were beaten comfortably at home by Manchester City.

Goals in each half from Erling Haaland, plus a first half strike from Tijjani Reijnders and a second half goal from Rayan Cherki was enough to see the Citizens power past their hosts.

AFC Bournemouth host Wolves at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday, August 23, kick off at 3pm.
