Mike Vrabel doesn’t want to talk about trade rumors, especially with Scott Zolak.
During a pregame interview with 98.5 The Sports Hub, Vrabel took a shot at Zolak, who had asked him about reports that New England Patriots veterans Kyle Dugger and Anfernee Jennings were put on the trade block.
Vrabel shot down the question while bringing up Zolak’s spotty track history with reports floating around New England.
“I don’t know. You’ve reported a lot of things that may not necessarily have been true," Vrabel said. “So I wouldn’t put a lot of stock into the reports that go around. You know that better than anybody.”
Ouch.
Vrabel didn’t name specifics. But it’s easy to read between the lines here.
Zolak came under fire earlier this summer when he spread around a “report” about quarterback Drake Maye. During a show, Zolak mentioned a story he’d heard about Maye and his wife quietly donating all of their wedding gifts to charity.
The story gained national attention. However, it proved to be false. It was later revealed that the story was based on AI-generated content on a TikTok account. Zolak’s own co-host, Marc Bertrand, devoted a segment to debunking the story in the following days.
With that said, signs point to the report about Dugger and Jennings being accurate. Dugger in particular played heavily in Thursday night’s preseason finale, a game typically devoted to backups and young players fighting for a roster spot.
But even if they are true, don’t expect Vrabel to admit as much on the radio.
