Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has reassured fans that French defender Wesley Fofana is happy at the club. Fofana recently drew eyes after he removed all pictures of himself playing for the club on Instagram.
Discussing the Frenchman’s future at the club, Maresca told the press:
“I spoke with Wes every day. He’s very happy, first of all because he’s back from injury. He’s joining all the sessions with us. He was on the bench just to be with us but from (Friday) he can get some minutes. We are happy, he is happy. About Instagram, I don’t have any idea because I don’t use social networks.”
Maresca continued:
“Wes is happy, we are happy, there is nothing to add on that. If there is abuse on Instagram, it’s never good. Not good for Wes, not for any player or human being in the world. It’s something, unfortunately, we cannot control.”
Fofana has struggled to stay fit since he joined Chelsea from Leicester City in 2022. He has missed 115 games since he joined the Blues, but remains signed until the summer of 2029.
Wesley Fofana has struggled to establish himself at the West London club since he joined from the Foxes for a reported €80.4 million. He has represented the club just 34 times, suffering five major injuries in his three seasons at the club.
Chelsea Prepare to Face West Ham
The Blues will be keen to bag their first win of the Premier League season when they face West Ham at the London Stadium in their second consecutive London derby. The champions of the world were held to a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace in the opening fixture of their domestic league campaign. Enzo Maresca is unlikely to make vast changes to the team that started their last game against the Eagles.
The Italian started with Robert Sanchez in goal. At the same time, a back four of Reece James, Josh Achempong, Trevor Chalobah, and Marc Cucurella played behind a double pivot of Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez. Pedro Neto, Cole Palmer, and Jamie Gittens played ahead of the South Americans, but behind Brazilian forward Jao Pedo.
