Man Utd referee vs Fulham confirmed, he once made scandalous Bruno Fernandes decision

Manchester United continue the 2025/26 campaign on Sunday, with Ruben Amorim hoping to get a win on the board against Fulham.

The season began with a loss for Manchester United last weekend against Arsenal, however, the performance left fans very confident over the team this year.

United may have lost to Arsenal, but for much of the 90 minutes, Ruben Amorim’s side played the Gunners off the pitch.

Amorim was thrilled with Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha after the new attacking duo ran rings around Mikel Arteta’s usually stubborn defensive line.

It was a really interesting game for United, with several moments showing that the Red Devils are on the right path.

Next up for United is a trip to Craven Cottage, where Amorim saw success last season, and now the referee for the clash has been announced.

Chris Kavanagh set to referee Manchester United vs Fulham

Despite failing to win on the opening day, United will be confident ahead of taking on Fulham this weekend having seen enough to show that plenty of goals could be scored.

However, against Arsenal it wasn’t just luck that saw the Gunners win, but Mark Clattenberg suggested Arsenal’s goal shouldn’t have counted, with a foul on Mason Mount in the moments before which wasn’t given by Simon Hooper.

So United will be hoping that the referee for this weekend against Fulham is more reliable and now the Premier League have announced who is officiating.

Referee: Chris Kavanagh. Assistants: Dan Cook, Neil Davies. Fourth official: Rob Jones. VAR: Darren England. Assistant VAR: Akil Howson.

Kavanagh is a familiar name to United and Premier League fans in general, having been involved in one of last season’s most controversial decisions.

While United and Bruno Fernandes in particular have bad memories of the referee.

Chris Kavanagh was involved in scandalous Bruno Fernandes decision

Back in September 2024, United faced Tottenham in the Premier League at Old Trafford and Erik ten Hag saw his team thrashed 3-0.

In this game, Fernandes was sent off under dubious circumstances after a tackle on James Maddison with Kavanagh the referee at the time.

Following the game, Fernandes revealed Maddison agreed it wasn’t a red card as the United captain slipped opposed to showing any malice in his efforts to win the ball.

Given it was a straight red, Fernandes was suspended for three games, however after a review United’s appeal was successful and the red was overturned.

This is a pretty clear indication that Kavanagh and the VAR staff got it wrong. After the blunders against Arsenal, United will be hoping to avoid further referee decisions impacting the result.
