Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal talked to the press after the team’s season opener against Osasuna and shared his thoughts about this campaign and also about his recovery from the devastating injury he suffered almost a year ago.
“It’s a very special day. I could feel the fans’ affection as soon as I went out to warm up. After many months I can say that I’m here, I’m feeling more comfortable every day, Xabi told me I’m at my best and that I should go for everything. So I’m very happy,” he said.
Carvajal will be Real Madrid’s captain after the departure of Luka Modric, and he couldn’t be any more proud.
”It’s a reward for many years of work. Being the captain of this ship is very important to me. I hope to do it with as much pride as possible but also with great respect for all my teammates and trying to create a winning team,” he explained.
He also talked about how competing with Trent Alexander-Arnold for the starting job on the right-back spot can make them both better players.
”I experience competition the same way I have at other times in my career; when I’ve had the most competition is when I have performed best. It’s a huge challenge that will make both of us better players,” he said.
