Rico Lewis has shared what was said following his scuffle with striker Jorgen Strand Larsen last weekend after the two had an argument during Wolves vs Man City.
Pep Guardiola’s men got their 2025/26 campaign off to the perfect start at Molineux as Tijjani Reijnders stole the show in the 4-0 win over the Midlands side.
Many of City’s stars stepped up on the opening weekend of the season, with Lewis being one of them, as the right-back provided an assist for Erling Haaland to open the scoring in the game.
This followed a positive pre-season for the 20-year-old, but a topic many Man City fans were talking about after the contest was the defender’s scuffle with Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Rico Lewis admits the Jorgen Strand Larsen scuffle was his fault
It was an amusing scene watching 6ft4 Larsen having his hand swatted away by the 5ft7 Lewis as the two squared up in the middle of the park last Saturday, with the Man City star making it clear that he is not a player to be messed with, no matter the size of his opponent.
The defender now sees the funny side of this scuffle and, speaking to the Daily Mail ahead of City’s clash with Tottenham this weekend, the 20-year-old has admitted that his argument with Larsen started because of him.

“What happened at the weekend was mainly my fault because I kicked the ball away,” Lewis said while smirking. “We scored, the ball came, and I kicked it away not even thinking, which was obviously stupid! He got a bit frustrated. We spoke after the game, he said sorry, I said sorry.
“Normally, I don’t put myself in a position to get into an argument. [But] you have to back yourself to a certain extent if somebody is picking on you, you’ve got to show that you are not there to be picked on and bullied.”
This added to what has been an interesting few weeks for the defender, as Nottingham Forest were very interested in signing Lewis ahead of the opening weekend of the Premier League season.
However, the defender would go on to shine against Wolves and stated after the match that he plans to stay at Man City, and now, a new five-year contract is heading Lewis’ way.
Rico Lewis’ dream at Manchester City
The Daily Mail’s report states that Phil Foden spoke to Lewis, Oscar Bobb, James Trafford and Nico O’Reilly before Man City’s match with Wolves, as the midfielder wanted to provide support to his fellow academy graduates.
Reflecting on this moment, Lewis has stated that a future dream he has is all five of them being regulars in Man City’s team, having walked a similar path to get to the first team.
“Phil came over and spoke to us,” Lewis shared. “And was like ‘I can’t wait for when all five of us are all regulars, all playing together.’ That’s the dream in the future, all of us together.
“We’ve all been brought up here and through the same process. It’s so easy to relate to the people who’ve been there for the longest period of time, and at a similar age. Hopefully, there will be some younger ones with us in the future too.”
