Amorim will speak to journalists today

It wasn't quite the refreshing new start Manchester United fans had hoped for against Arsenal last weekend but there were plenty of positives to take ahead of Sunday's clash with Fulham.

looked bright against the Gunners, with new signings Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha the pick of the bunch. But their problems in front of goal came back to haunt them as United drew a blank in a 1-0 defeat.

United will face Fulham on Sunday as they go in search of their first points of the season. Ruben Amorim will speak to the media today and it will be interesting to hear what he has to say after some contentious calls last weekend.

Andre Onana was not involved in the matchday squad despite being available to play, with back-up goalkeeper Altay Bayindir's mistake in the 13th minute settling the contest. Amorim hit back at suggestions Tom Heaton should be considered ahead of Bayindir, but Onana is expected to return on Sunday.

This weekend could also see Benjamin Sesko awarded a full Premier League debut, but will there be space in the squad for Rasmus Hojlund?

Amorim will give updates on all of this today and you can keep up to date with our live blog below.

Maguire on his contract situation

Maguire has entered the final year of his United contract.

"Last year, the clause was in their hands, so there was no option for me there," he said. "There was no talking. It was just that they activated it, and it got extended. This year, obviously I'm up at the end of the year.

"I'm pretty sure the club have made it aware this summer that I can't leave the club on any terms with other clubs enquiring about my things and my position with my contract.

"I'm sure over the next few months they'll sit down and we'll have to have a conversation about where we want to go and if they want to extend, or obviously the transfer window will open again in January.

"Obviously, I have something in my mind about what I want to do and what I want to be. I don't want to put it out there to everybody, but it's an amazing club to play for and you'd be silly if you wanted to jump out of it as soon as you could."

Ruben Amorim was pictured with 14-year-old JJ Gariel at Carrington on Thursday.

Gabriel and his family were introduced to United's head coach. Amorim posed for a photo with the supremely talented youngster, who has already been tipped to reach the top of the game.

United invited Gabriel to watch last weekend's game against Arsenal in the directors' box, following the teenager's decision to commit his future to the club for at least the next two years.

Academy prospects would not usually be invited to meet Amorim and watch a game in the directors' box, but the feeling is that Gabriel is not an ordinary talent.

but has genuine star potential and already has a huge profile. Gabriel has been on the radar of top European clubs, however, he decided this summer to continue in Manchester.

United ownership clause explained

Could the Glazer family really kick Sir Jim Ratcliffe out of Manchester United? The answer is yes.

However, it's highly unlikely, so here is an explainer of the headlines you may have seen.

When Ratcliffe acquired a minority stake at in February 2024, a clause was inserted into the deal which essentially stipulated the Glazers would have the ability to force all shareholders - including Ineos - to sell their shares after 18 months of the investment being signed off.

The ‘drag-along clause’ means the Glazer family have the right to sell to a third party, and to force Ratcliffe to sell his shares; however, Ratcliffe has the right to match any such offer.

Drag-alongs are commonplace in the business world. They make it easier for a company to be sold, as they prevent the possibility of a minority shareholder blocking a deal that the majority want to take place.
