Dilemma over whether to sell player to Wolves or Aston Villa – Politics could even play a part

Aston Villa have joined Wolverhampton Wanderers and others in the battle to sign Barcelona’s Marc Casadó at the end of the summer window.

Over the past few days, the Catalan media have reported on Wolves making contact for the 21-year-old.

Friday’s edition of [El País](https://elpais.com/) adds Aston Villa to the list and provides the latest on Casadó’s situation.

It’s claimed the midfielder has offers from Wolves, Aston Villa and Marseille, and some of those are close to the €30m reportedly requested by Barcelona. The newspaper adds Vítor Pereira’s side, and the Villans could quadruple his salary.

El País say for the La Liga winners, the question is also whether it’s ‘politically convenient’ to force him out.

In other words, selling him could cause internal friction as Casadó was born in Catalonia and is a graduate of their famous academy, La Masia. On the other hand, his sale is seen as a market opportunity.

The dilemma is not just for Barca, but also for the Spain international. He played 2,447 minutes from 36 games last season. Casadó won’t be able to enjoy regular minutes this season as he’s slipped down the pecking order and is aware of the situation.

El País state: _‘Casadó has a life in Barcelona that the luxury of the Premier League can’t buy. After first-team training, he goes to find his partner from her job in Sant Pere de Vilamajor, and they live a quiet life in their hometown.’_

He left his agent and will be represented by Jorge Mendes from October. The player insists the decision to tie up with the super-agent is to secure his long-term future, while not being motivated to improve his salary by moving to England.

_‘It’s true that Marc doesn’t fit the stereotype of the modern footballer. We’ll see what decision he makes if he finds himself not playing a single minute until September,’_ a first-team employee of Barca told the newspaper.

Wolves, Aston Villa and Casadó’s other suitors will be eagerly waiting to find out both his and Barca’s final decision.
