‘You can’t have it both ways’: Wayne Rooney shows his Everton colours with Anthony Gordon claim

Everton have just over one week to tie up the remainder of their summer transfer business.

It has not been an easy summer for David Moyes, with a huge amount of work needed on Merseyside following numerous departures in June.

Some positive work has been done at Everton, though, with the likes of Jack Grealish brought into the club to add some real quality.

But there is still work to be done, and Everton are looking to add three more signings before the window shuts.

One thing the Blues will be delighted with is not losing any of their top players, despite Everton rejecting offers for Iliman Ndiaye.

Clubs around the league have seen some of their top players demand a move, which Wayne Rooney has now used Anthony Gordon as an example in a recent debate.

Wayne Rooney drops Anthony Gordon rant from Everton

Gordon has already been slammed for forcing his Everton exit amid the ongoing saga in the north east with Alexander Isak.

However, it has not stopped there, with Rooney also raising the former Everton winger’s behaviour to join Newcastle.

Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show, the England legend hit back at Newcastle for their fury over Isak’s strike on Tyneside.

“Newcastle are not happy with Isak’s behaviour because Liverpool want to sign him. But on the flip side, is that Newcastle want to sign Wissa who is being the exact same way,” said Rooney (25:30).

“I remember Anthony Gordon not playing for Everton because he wanted to go to Newcastle. So, you can’t have it both ways.”

Even at Newcastle, Gordon pushed for a move to Liverpool last summer, admitting he thought the deal would go through.

Football is a fickle game, and it is clear that there are very few players who actually hold any loyalty, unlike Seamus Coleman.

Anthony Gordon admitted Liverpool turned his head at Newcastle

Since the move, Everton have mocked Gordon on social media following some of the recent games between the two clubs.

The Liverpool-born forward did not cover himself in glory with his own big-money transfer to St James’ Park.

Gordon refused to play and train at Everton, which ended up forcing the move to Newcastle.

However, he could have found himself moving back to Liverpool last summer, as he admitted he thought he was set to join Liverpool.

“It’s true, that was the case. I would never lie. It was difficult for me because one, I had the Euros, which was horrendous for me mentally. I was there, I wasn’t playing,” he said.

“Then I had the transfer stuff. With PSR, I thought I was going to leave at some point in the window. It didn’t happen. I had to get my head around that to begin with (thinking he was going), and then to get my head around it again (when it didn’t happen) was hard.”
