Graham Potter makes claim about his side's chances against Chelsea ahead of West Ham clash, 'top team'

Graham Potter is certainly looking to prove a point on a personal basis when Chelsea make the trip to West Ham on Friday night.

Despite being the chosen one by Todd Boehly to take forward the ambitious project at Stamford Bridge, Potter was sacked before his first season at the club had come to an end.

Since then, the Englishman has struggled to get things going at West Ham, and their 3-0 defeat last weekend against Sunderland saw them start the season in dire circumstances.

Since Potter’s departure, Chelsea have gone from strength to strength, and are now in a far stronger position than their opponents with Enzo Maresca in charge of the club.

Graham Potter admits he will need ‘luck’ to beat Chelsea

The Blues will be seen as favourites for the game at the London Stadium, however are also off the back of an underwhelming first performance of the season against Crystal Palace.

Potter believes there will need to be some luck involved if his side are to pick up three points, admitting that the opposition are in a ‘really good moment’ right now.

He said to the West Ham website: “It’ll take a huge effort, a fantastic team performance, always a little bit of luck, but you are playing against a top team in a really good moment, so we have to perform well as a team with a balance between attack and defence, and we have to give everything.”

Maresca looks set to welcome Tosin Adarabioyo back to his starting side in defence for the game, however Levi Colwill remains out following a serious knee injury.

Graham Potter’s dire record at Chelsea

It cannot be said that the owners of the club didn’t give Potter enough time to turn things around at Stamford Bridge.

The Englishman was in charge of just 22 Premier League games, although didn’t impress and won just seven matches before he was sacked.

In all competitions, Potter managed 31 matches, enjoying a far better record in the Champions League before he was replaced by Frank Lampard for the end of the season.

A stronger showing under Mauricio Pochettino followed, before Maresca has taken the club to new heights, returning to Europe’s elite competition this summer.
