West Ham could be in line for another forgettable Premier League campaign.

Graham Potter’s side lost 3-0 to Sunderland in the worst possible start, and some supporters fear that they could be dragged into a relegation battle.

The lack of transfer activity has also been concerning, and Karren Brady’s recent comments on transfers at the London Stadium have gone down like a lead balloon.

Harry Redknapp is sceptical of West Ham’s chances as they take on Chelsea in their first game of the season, with the potential for the atmosphere around the club to turn even more toxic if they lose.

Harry Redknapp fears fans properly turning on Graham Potter

Ever since Potter’s appointment in January, the former Brighton manager has been unable to work the same magic that made him so successful on the south coast, leaving supporters in East London disgruntled.

Former West Ham manager Redknapp gave his thoughts on the Hammers’ current situation when he appeared on talkSPORT on 22 August.

“I’m looking at the team at the moment and they do look short,” Redknapp said.

“That was a disastrous first game against Sunderland away, they get beat 3-0, and you know, the fans, if they turn and they’re not happy after five or six games, then it could be trouble there for West Ham.

West Ham’s opening six Premier League fixtures:

vs Sunderland (A) – lost 3-0

vs Chelsea (H) – 22 August

vs Forest (A) – 31 August

vs Tottenham (H) – 13 September

vs Crystal Palace (H) – 20 September

vs Everton (A) – 29 September

If Redknapp’s prediction is correct, that Everton fixture away at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on 29 September could be the last opportunity for Potter to turn things around if he wants to keep his job.

West Ham could find themselves on zero points after opening four matches

Given how poor they were against Sunderland, West Ham could easily find themselves losing their next three games to Chelsea, Forest and Spurs if they do not drastically improve.

If this is the case, then Potter’s sacking could come even sooner than anticipated, and to make things even worse for West Ham, Mohammed Kudus and Spurs would be the ones who would be responsible.

If Kudus starts against his former club and West Ham get beat convincingly, David Sullivan and Co. will have no one to blame but themselves for the mess West Ham have become over the summer.
