ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel recently stated that [DeMar DeRozan likely doesn't have a lot of trade value](https://www.si.com/nba/kings/sacramento-kings-news/latest-update-on-demar-derozan-s-trade-market) during the current offseason, but that he might eventually begin coming to the forefront of trade talks once we actually get in to the 2025-26 season. Anytime DeRozan is in the news cycle, it instantly brings back a lot of memories for San Antonio Spurs fans.
DeRozan's arrival represented a massive [shift in the course of Spurs history](https://airalamo.com/spurs-demar-derozan-trade-looks-even-better-latest-draft-pick). In July 2018, he was the focal point of a trade package San Antonio got back when they infamously dealt Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors.
From the outset, what that meant was that unfair expectations were going to be placed on DeMar. He was always a great player, but he has never reached the highs that Kawhi reached in his career. And of course that's nothing remotely close to a knock on DeRozan, because how many players have reached those kinds of peaks? Maybe a few in all of NBA history?
But it was the fact that in an instant, Leonard was gone out of the equation and DeMar was put in his place. In the blink of an eye, DeRozan became the player Spurs fans were looking to in order to help them carry on their dynastic run.
DeMar DeRozan could be on the move in 2025-26
---------------------------------------------
For the first season of his run in San Antonio, things went pretty well. In 2018-19, the Spurs earned the seven seed in the Western Conference and gave a young Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray a run for their money in the playoffs, taking the Denver Nuggets to seven games.
But after that, San Antonio saw their longstanding streak of years in the playoffs finally come to an end in 2020, and the Spurs haven't been back to the first round of the playoffs since then. It was an unfortunate set of circumstances DeMar was handed, but the reality is that he wasn't ever meant to be a number one on a championship team.
That doesn't diminish his ability. DeRozan is one of the most polished scorers of the 2010s, and his longevity speaks to the value of his skills as well. He's clearly still going strong with the Sacramento Kings in 2025, and he'll definitely be of value to some inquiring team once the season starts up.
For Spurs fans who still have a lot of love for DeMar DeRozan and are interested in continuing to follow his journey, you may get to see him on a new team sometime in 2025-26.
