Jobs are on the line in the final week of the preseason, not just for the Eagles but for all fringe players around the NFL.
For Philadelphia, as the team travels to New Jersey to take on the New York Jets at the familiar confines of MetLife Stadium, fans can't help but wonder what the future holds for the players fighting for roster spots 45-53.
While many starters and backups will take Friday as a paid "off-day," several players may be forced into action as a final dress rehearsal to prove they not only belong on the Eagles but also in the NFL as a whole. Below are three players I believe are fighting for their NFL futures on the Eagles roster.
Dorian Thompson-Robinson, QB
DTR is someone I may have picked on a decent amount on this website, but there is no bias here. The former UCLA product was probably traded to Philadelphia to compete with Kyle McCord for the QB3 spot.
McCord has several advantages before even taking the field against DTR, going into their matchup with the Jets. He's younger, he's cheaper, and he has the privilege of the unknown upside, with more team control.
DTR has put together two below-preseason outings in addition to poor play during the regular season. If you've read any of my DTR articles, you know I love talking about the 1:10 touchdown-to-interception ratio and his erratic play to get on the field.
In a perfect world, I believe Roseman would try to keep DTR on his practice squad with McCord on the active roster; however, it feels like another team will give the 25-year-old a shot if left unprotected.
Jahan Dotson, WR
I feel that Dotson had every opportunity to be the true WR3 and could have taken advantage of A.J. Brown's injury. So far, Dotson has been "just a guy" in Philly, and in 2024, he was the beneficiary of being more gifted than the young crop of receivers beneath him on the depth chart.
With the addition of John Metchie III, is Howie Roseman telling us what he thinks of Dotson's ability? There is no question that Metchie is a highly talented receiver, but it's a lot of stock to put into a player whose career high in receptions is only 24.
While it's unclear if Dotson is set to take the field on Friday, his absence could mean one of three things. Did he do enough to earn his keep in 2025? Has the staff written him off already, or are they trying to keep him healthy so he can be used as a trade piece?
Chance Campbell, LB
This one may be easy pickings, but is there any doubt that Chance Campbell has the weight of the world on his shoulders? Three years in the NFL, three years full of injuries, and now you get signed to the team on Wednesday with a game on Friday.
The odds do not seem they be in his favor whatsoever. While Campbell is probably just a camp body, to get the Eagles to the finish line of camp, he'll still get a "chance" to show that he still belongs in the NFL.

For Campbell, the goal is simple: get out of the game healthy, play tough on special teams, and hope that linebacker coach Bobby King can lobby enough for you to remain in the league as an "upside" prospect.
