Report: Arsenal could sign £345,000-a-week star after Eberechi Eze, Berta is driving deal

Arsenal are eyeing a late move for Real Madrid star Rodrygo amid their advanced talks to sign Eberechi Eze, journalist Graeme Bailey has revealed.

Andrea Berta has reportedly earmarked the £76m-rated Brazil international as a potential reinforcement on the wing and could explore a loan move before the transfer window shuts on September 1.

Arsenal are believed to be long-term admirers of Rodrygo and have been heavily linked with a move for the 24-year-old throughout the summer.

Mikel Arteta's are on the lookout for late attacking reinforcements following Kai Havertz’s injury – the German forward is set for a spell on the sidelines with a knee setback, which leaves Arsenal with Viktor Gyokeres as the only recognised number nine.

Rodrygo is a player of interest to several Premier League clubs, including Manchester City, who view the Brazilian as a potential replacement for Tottenham-linked Savinho.

Rodrygo in action for Real Madrid

Rodrygo’s future at Real Madrid has been a talking point for the past several months – the Brazilian has struggled for regular minutes since new manager Xabi Alonso’s arrival and was left on the bench for the club’s 1-0 win over Osasuna on Tuesday.

Alonso said it was his decision to leave the 24-year-old without minutes, but downplayed his lack of involvement, insisting he still counts on the former Santos starlet for now.

Rodrygo also barely featured under Alonso at the Club World Cup, where he made just three appearances and one start, amassing a total of 92 minutes of action.

The £345,000-per-week Brazilian, who is under contract until June 2028, made 51 appearances for Real last term, scoring 14 goals and providing 10 assists.

Arsenal are set to take their summer spending past the £250m mark with the arrival of Eze, who is now close to returning to his former club on a long-term deal.

Eze was a boyhood Arsenal fan and part of the club's academy until he was 13 – he has previously admitted to ‘crying for a week’ when he was released by the Gunners in 2011.

The 27-year-old forward has been a key player for Palace since joining from QPR in 2020, scoring 40 goals and providing 28 assists in 169 appearances.
